Image & Resolution
Pixel to Print Size Calculator
Enter your image pixel dimensions and DPI to find out exactly how large it will print in centimetres, millimetres or inches. Instantly check whether your image has enough resolution for the intended print size.

Formula used
Print size (cm) = (Pixels ÷ DPI) × 2.54
Print size (mm) = (Pixels ÷ DPI) × 25.4
Both width and height are calculated independently. The result also shows a quality indicator comparing the computed print size to 300 DPI, 200 DPI and 150 DPI thresholds.
Example calculations
Example 1 — 4000 × 3000 px at 300 DPI:
Width = 4000 ÷ 300 = 13.33 in = 33.9 cm. Height = 3000 ÷ 300 = 10 in = 25.4 cm. Fits A4 at full photo quality.
Example 2 — 1920 × 1080 px (HD) at 300 DPI:
Width = 1920 ÷ 300 = 6.4 in = 16.3 cm. Height = 1080 ÷ 300 = 3.6 in = 9.1 cm. Barely postcard-size at photo quality.
Example 3 — Coloring page 2480 × 3508 px at 150 DPI:
Width = 2480 ÷ 150 = 16.5 in = 41.9 cm. Height = 3508 ÷ 150 = 23.4 in = 59.4 cm. Suitable for an A2 draft poster.
How to use this calculator
- Enter the pixel width and pixel height of your image.
- Set the DPI (300 for photos, 150 for drafts).
- Choose your preferred output unit: inches, cm or mm.
- Read the print size and quality indicator in the result.
Common image sizes vs. print sizes
| Pixels | At 300 DPI | At 150 DPI |
|---|---|---|
| 1200 × 1800 | 4 × 6 in (10 × 15 cm) | 8 × 12 in (20 × 30 cm) |
| 1800 × 2400 | 6 × 8 in (15 × 20 cm) | 12 × 16 in (30 × 40 cm) |
| 2480 × 3508 | A4 full-bleed | A2 poster draft |
| 3000 × 4000 | 10 × 13.3 in | 20 × 26.7 in |
| 4961 × 7016 | A3 full-bleed | A1 poster draft |
Notes & limitations
Changing the DPI metadata in photo editing software (without resampling) does not change the number of pixels — it only changes the print size interpretation. Always check the actual pixel count. For coloring pages, see ColoringBuds.com — all pages are exported at 300 DPI for A4 and Letter.
Frequently asked questions
How many pixels is a 4x6 inch photo at 300 DPI?
A 4 × 6 inch print at 300 DPI requires 1,200 × 1,800 pixels.
How do I convert pixels to centimetres?
Divide the pixel count by the DPI to get inches, then multiply by 2.54. Example: 3000 px ÷ 300 DPI = 10 inches = 25.4 cm.
What pixel size do I need for an A4 print at 300 DPI?
A4 at 300 DPI is 2,480 × 3,508 pixels (full bleed). With 10 mm margins it becomes 2,244 × 3,272 px.
Can I print a 1920 × 1080 image on A4?
Yes, but only at about 165 DPI — acceptable for coloring pages and documents but softer than photo quality. For sharp photo prints you need at least 2,480 × 3,508 px.
Why does my image look pixelated when printed?
The pixel count is too low for the print size at the chosen DPI. Use this calculator to find the minimum pixels needed, then source or upscale the image.
